Wikipedia celebrates its 10 years jubilee
Wikipedia (The Free Encyclopedia That Anyone Can Edit) turned 10 years old on 15.01.2011, respectively, yesterday!
Let’s drop an eye into Wikipedia’s first entry:
Here is a look at their gauche past. Their first six weeks of being, all 10.000 entries are placed here: http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/~reagle/wp-redux/
Wikipedia had some attractive uneven times back then, in the entry on American Football there was a row that said “Dallas Cowboys suck” and referred to Mariah Carey as a “chick with big tits and a hell of a voice (capable of spanning seven octaves)”. Ladies and gentleman, the wild west of Wikipedia! (Though technically both morsels are sort correct).
It’s hard to remember about surfing the Internet before Wikipedia but you can try to remember using it in 2001, the year it has appeared.
Quite unbelievable, that it has been 10 years since the free encyclopedia has shown us its first entries.
According to official media sources, Wikipedia has about 1.2 million members. In the German wiki are supposedly 100,000 users registered and about seven percent of them are actively engaged in working on articles.
