Ice sheet melting, due to a warming climate may contribute further to climate change than earlier studies anticipated, as sea level rise from melting affects ocean circulation, which, in turn leads to additional climate changes. Effectively it means we have a vicious cycle that can only be slowed by slowing down global warming. This vicious cycle is called a ‘positive feedback loop’ which is perhaps global warming’s most frightening outcome.
“The ice sheets are melting? Well, there’s nothing I can do to change that. Right?” WRONG.
The problem is not too big or overwhelming. In fact, every one of us can help stop this cycle before it’s too late. World Environment Day signals a time for us not just to talk about change, but to be the change.
Believe it or not, being the change in global warming is easy. There are three easy steps:
Recognise: Recognize your impact on global warming through your day to day activities
Reduce: Reduce those emissions through behavioural change – leave your car at home, switch to green energy, replace those lightbulbs!
Offset: Because the planet can’t wait – offset what you can’t reduce today with properly certified carbon credits.
